Irving Sister Cities/International Trade Development and Assistance Center

Sister Cities International began in 1956 as a people-to-people initiative proposed by U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Born during the aftermath of the Second World War, the sister city movement originated with aid programs assisting war-devastated cities.

Today's sister city movement has matured into a flourishing global network. No two sister city relationships are alike. Sister city partners engage in exchange and community development programs spanning a host of issues: Arts and Culture / Economic Development / Humanitarian Assistance / Sustainable Development / Youth and Recreation.

The initial focus is directed in Mexico (Texas' number one trading partner) but will soon expand to additional markets such as Asia. The Center has established an International Trade Program for Irving including:

  • Conducting trade missions from Irving as well as reverse trade missions
  • Targeting specific sectors or markets to facilitate matchmaking activities
  • Conducting information and training seminars on "How to do Business" in foreign markets

The Center is managed by experienced international executives and is leveraging the bi-national infrastructure of the U.S.-Mexico Chamber already established with eight offices in the United States and eight offices in Mexico. Learn more.
