The U.S. Chamber of Commerce and MetLife have agreed to a partnership targeting small businesses that includes the creation of a quarterly small business research index.

The deal also provides for local market events focused on small businesses and extends to the chamber’s annual national Dream Big Small Business Awards program in Washington, D.C., as well.

“There’s nothing small about small business,” said Suzanne Clark, senior executive vice president at the U.S. Chamber, in a statement. “Whether in Washington or on Wall Street, the voice of Main Street needs to be heard and better understood.”

The planned quarterly research index aims to provide a snapshot of small business operations through participating business owners’ comments on national economic and societal trends. The first report is due out in the second quarter. The survey methodology calls for 1,000 phone interviews with different pools of small business owners each quarter.

Details on branding for the survey were not immediately available. Chamber officials did say they plan to work with Ipsos on the survey.

On the events front, while dates were not available, the partnership is planning for local events in Dallas, Minneapolis, Phoenix and Tampa later this year.

“MetLife’s commitment to small business has never been stronger,” said James Reid, executive vice president for regional and small business solutions at MetLife (NYSE: MET), in a statement. “Creating two out of every three new jobs across the country, and representing more than a third of total U.S. exports, small businesses have a huge impact.”
