Irving City Manager Chris Hillman announced today that he is recommending current Irving Assistant Police Chief Jeff Spivey as the new Irving Chief of Police. The recommendation is contingent on the Irving City Council’s confirmation during its regularly scheduled March 23 council meeting.

Spivey, JeffThe recommendation follows an extensive search and interview process. The city also scheduled candidate meetings with city constituents: residents, community leaders, North Texas law enforcement leadership, and city employees. Constituents’ input was reviewed thoroughly following those meetings.

“The police chief is a key position for the City of Irving,” said Irving City Manager Chris Hillman. “We wanted to ensure we had the right person for this important leadership role, and I am confident Jeff Spivey will do a tremendous job. His leadership ability, his innovative approach, connections throughout the community, and the respect he has garnered within the Irving Police Department have earned Jeff the position of Irving’s Chief of Police.”

Spivey has held the assistant chief’s job since 2011. He joined the Irving Police Department in 1986. His career experience spans numerous departments, including patrol and criminal investigation. Since 2008, he has led each command services bureau: investigative, administrative and operations. Over the years, Spivey has developed programs that have helped forge strong relationships throughout Irving’s diverse community.

He has a Master of Science in Criminal Justice Leadership and Management from Sam Houston State University, in Huntsville, Texas, as well as a Bachelor of Arts and Science from Midwestern State University, in Wichita Falls, Texas where he graduated Summa cum Laude.

Spivey’s law enforcement training is extensive, including graduating from the FBI National Academy, as well as Senior Management Institute for Police. He currently is serving on the Jack E. Singley Criminal Justice Advisory Board. Spivey also is involved in numerous civic and professional organizations.
