Some Harvey evacuees have come to Dallas-Fort Worth to avoid the damage and danger of the storms.

Here’s how North Texans can help, with shelter, supplies and volunteer efforts:

CITY OF DALLAS: Volunteers may be needed to help evacuees at designated recreation centers. Volunteers can register online.

Provide supplies:

Supplies are needed for city recreation centers.

Drop off items at a donation center at 15660 North Dallas Parkway (north of Arapaho Road), Dallas, from 3 to 8 p.m. through Sept. 1. The center is operated by the local nonprofit group Trusted World, which is working with the city and several disaster relief agencies.

Items needed: diapers, baby wipes, toiletries, feminine hygiene products and nonperishable food including baby food. The only clothing items that are needed at this time are packs of underwear and socks.

Check the Trusted World Facebook page and the city’s 211 phone line for the latest information.

Donate money:

DALLAS FOUNDATION: The Dallas Foundation has started a Hurricane Harvey disaster relief fund. Donate online here, designating funds for Harvey efforts. Checks can be mailed to the Dallas Foundation, 3963 Maple Ave., Suite 390, Dallas, Texas 75219, noting Hurricane Harvey Disaster Relief Fund.

RED CROSS: The American Red Cross has information about Hurricane Harvey on its website and a special appeal for help in funding the disaster response. The site includes hurricane safety tips and resources.

Go to, call 1-800-RED CROSS (733-2767) or text the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.

SALVATION ARMY: The Salvation Army is accepting financial donations online or donors can call 1-800-SAL-ARMY (725-2769). Also six local stations of CBS Radio DFW will hold a fund drive Monday to benefit the Salvation Army efforts. Money will be accepted by phone noon to 6 p.m. at 214-525-7200 and 214-525-7044 (Spanish).

SAVE THE CHILDREN: Save the Children is on the ground in Texas, and has set up a relief fund for kids and families affected by Harvey.

Donate blood:

CARTER BLOODCARE: Carter BloodCare will send blood donations to its partners affected by Hurricane Harvey. The center will also deal with an increase in demand for blood and platelets as intensive care patients arrive in North Texas, spokeswoman Linda Goelzer said.

Donations of all blood types are needed, especially O types, she said.

North Texas donors can text DONATE4LIFE to 444-999 and a Carter BloodCare employee can tell you times and places to donate or call 1-877-571-1000.

Help furry friends:

SPCA: Hundreds of animals are being displaced because of Hurricane Harvey and are heading to North Texas.

SPCA of Texas is asking for donations of cat litter, litter boxes, towels, blankets, treats, toys and newspaper. Donations can be taken to these locations: 2400 Lone Star Drive in Dallas and 8411 Stacy Road in McKinney. Financial donations are also accepted at

Provide shelter:

AIRBNB: Volunteer your rental home or room through rental site, which is connecting evacuees in the path of the storm with free, short-term lodging. Airbnb hosts in designated areas are able to volunteer their rentals through a sign-up program. That’s also where evacuees can request lodging.

The program has been activated in several cities, including Dallas, San Antonio and Austin. It will run through Sept. 1.
