ABM Industries, Inc. is consolidating some of its Dallas-Fort Worth operations into a new facility in Irving that will house 200 employees, the company told the Dallas Business Journal.
A company representative also said he projects the company to hire 200-300 additional people at the facility within five years.
ABM is a facility solutions company. An office building or airport will contract ABM for certain services, like, for example, janitorial duties. The company reported nearly $5.5 billion of revenue in its 2017 fiscal year, which ended Oct. 31, 2017.
While the company is headquartered in New York City, Dallas-Fort Worth is a key market.
"We're probably No. 3 as a focal point for ABM," said Doug Smyers — senior vice president of ABM Building Services — about the DFW market.
The company is investing about $500,000 into improvements of the new facility at 2020 Westridge Drive in Irving, Smyers said. ABM will occupy just under 30,000 square feet at the complex and is scheduled to move into its new building in mid-to-late March.
"It's ideal for location," Smyers said about why the company is consolidating in Irving. "A lot of our customers are spread out pretty evenly over the metroplex. It seems to be a good point to be able to service our commercial clients quicker."
The 200 initial employees are made up of a variety of ABM's different business operations. Some of the groups that will be represented are people who work in the national call center, management team members and technicians.
This move to its new Irving facility won't encompass all ABM's North Texas employees, as Symers said the company will still have about a handful of facilities around the metroplex even after the move.
