After honoring Veterans Day, Nov. 11, Irving-Las Colinas residents can take part in a Unite For Troops Veterans Day Celebration the day after.

Shelley Jeoffroy, a fifth-grade math teacher at Otis Brown Elementary in Irving ISD, has been named a finalist for 2023 Texas Teacher of the Year.

Irving was still in its infancy when the state fire insurance board recommended it would need the assistance of 20 men to serve as its volunteer fire force. A population scant of 400 living just west of Dallas’ reach in the 1920s, Irving was quickly progressing into a thriving town complete with a water system, electric service, school district and a volunteer fire department.

With a nearly $626,000 award from the foundation formed by the Microsoft co-founder and his ex-wife, Irving-based chemical and specialty materials company Celanese Corporation says it plans to produce a refillable contraceptive implant.
