The City of Irving and Chamber work in tandem to ensure the Chamber’s 85-year history of building and supporting its member-investors remains as much a top priority as it was when the Chamber was formed.

The Chamber collaborates with several regional organizations on issues that affect the business community and Irving residents including infrastructure, water and transportation.

The City’s legislative team prioritized these issues for the 85th session of the Texas Legislature.

  • Maintain current state law regarding the city’s ability to control its revenue streams, including leaving the current property tax rollback system in place and protecting revenue from the sales tax, hotel occupancy tax and city fees from changes or reductions by the Legislature.
  • Support the state’s current and enhanced ability to provide major infrastructure in partnership with cities, such as the ability to expand water supply, innovate in wastewater treatment and continue to fund highway, toll and rail projects and other transportation modes in urban areas.
  • Retain the City Council’s authority to make decisions about the community’s health and welfare within the bounds of its existing home-rule authority.
  • Resist the imposition of unfunded mandates or increased requirements on city operations, such as public safety services and court operations, or prescriptive changes in post-employment benefits.
  • Continue to have access to the full range of economic development incentives allowed by state law, including use of special districts, partnerships and fees associated with certain operations.
