Here’s How Elderly Irving-Las Colinas Residents Can Get Free Help With Their Tax Returns

Moderate- and low-income seniors in Irving can receive free assistance with their taxes, but it will look a little different this year thanks to COVID-19.

Volunteers trained by the IRS and AARP will provide assistance at Heritage Senior Center, 200 S. Jefferson St. Appointments are required, with no walk-ins permitted.

Staff will start scheduling meetings on Monday, with the first appointments available Feb. 15. Tax packets, which are outside the center’s main entry doors, must be picked up and filled out before the appointment.

To schedule an appointment, call 972-721-2496 during business hours Monday through Friday. Appointments are scheduled up to one week in advance and will be available 8 to 11 a.m. Mondays and Thursdays through April 15.

Temperature checks will be taken upon entry, and masks are required at all times.

To participate, residents should be at least 50 years old and have an annual income less than $60,000. Assistance is also available to taxpayers with disabilities, limited English proficiency and current and former military.
