Irving ISD’s Suzie Oelschlegel named to UIL’s top 100 coaches list

MacArthur High School girls basketball coach Suzie Oelschlegel was named to the UIL’s top 100 high school basketball coaches of all time.

Oelschlegel has coached for 34 years, all at Irving’s MacArthur High School, where she is now head coach. She has a career record of 847 wins, and in 2011 led her team to the 5A state championship.

The UIL is honoring the state’s top 100 coaches as part of the centennial celebration of UIL Texas high school basketball. In addition, the UIL is recognizing the top 100 players and top 100 teams, chosen with the help of the state’s sports experts and historians.

Known as “Coach O,” Oelschlegel was named National Coach of the Year in 2011 by the National Federation of State High School Associations. The same year, she also received the UIL’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
