Sprouts Farmers Market to Open New Stores in Irving and Grand Prairie

Sprouts Farmers Market, which just completed a strong year where it nearly doubled its profit, said Friday that it will open 20 new stores in 2021, including two locally.

New stores are in the works in Las Colinas at MacArthur and Las Colinas boulevards and in Grand Prairie at Pioneer and Carrier parkways.

The Texas stores will open in the second half of this year. Sprouts has 47 stores in Texas, with 23 of those in Dallas-Fort Worth.

Last year, Sprouts opened six stores, including a new, slightly smaller 25,000-square-foot concept. That’s what is planned for Grand Prairie. Most Sprouts stores are about 30,000 square feet.

Sprouts’ chief format officer Dave McGlinchey said the smaller store is more efficient and “keeps produce at the heart of the store” with the familiar open layout and an emphasis on fresh foods, including meat and seafood, instead of prepared foods.

The Phoenix-based chain of 362 stores in 23 states said the expansion is mostly filling in markets in its biggest states of California, Texas and Florida. The company’s sales last year increased 15% to $6.5 billion, and it posted a profit of $287.5 million.
