Irving, Texas-based Exxon Mobil Corp. (NYSE: XOM) will have a new CFO in August, and she will be the first woman to join the energy company’s executive team.
Andrew Swiger, Exxon’s senior vice president and principal financial officer, said he will retire on Sept. 1. Replacing him will be Kathryn Mikells, who will officially take over as CFO and senior vice president on Aug. 9. She is not only the first woman to join the executive ranks at the company, but she is also the first external hire for the management committee, Reuters reported.
Swiger has been in the industry for more than 43 years and started his career at Exxon as an operations engineer in 1978. Since then, Swiger rose through the ranks and worked at various sites around the world.
Mikells is coming from London-based Diageo PLC, where she served as the alcoholic beverage company’s CFO and board member since November 2015. Mikells also served on Diageo’s executive committee and left the company at the end of June, according to Diageo. The company said Mikells improved its performance trajectory and led a global activity program during her time there.
