The ExxonMobil Foundation said today that 64 accredited Texas colleges and universities will receive nearly $5 million as part of the ExxonMobil Foundation’s Educational Matching Gift Program. ExxonMobil employees and retirees contributed almost $2.5 million to Texas colleges and universities, and those individual donations were matched by nearly $2.5 million in ExxonMobil Foundation grants.
The ExxonMobil Foundation’s program matches individual donations to accredited colleges and universities in the United States. The American Indian College Fund, Hispanic Scholarship Fund and United Negro College Fund also receive donations as part of the matching gift program. While the grants are unrestricted, colleges and universities are encouraged to designate a portion of the funds they receive to science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) programs supporting student engagement.
“ExxonMobil’s contributions to higher education this year demonstrate our commitment to invest in future generations of leaders and innovators,” said Kevin Murphy, president of the ExxonMobil Foundation. “The financial support provided through the ExxonMobil Foundation’s Educational Matching Gift Program will help prepare students and universities for future success in highly competitive work environments.”
The ExxonMobil Foundation matches donations to eligible U.S. colleges and universities of up to $7,500 a year on a 2-to-1 basis for employees and on a 1-to-1 basis for retirees.
Nationally, the ExxonMobil Foundation and more than 2,700 ExxonMobil employees and retirees contributed more than $22.5 million to 663 institutions of higher education in 2020.
