Medical City Healthcare Donates 130,000 Meals of Food to Food Banks

Thanks to the generosity of its healthcare heroes, Medical City Healthcare collected 28,000 pounds of food and donated $32,500 to North Texas food banks as a result of its second “Healthy Food for Healthier Tomorrows” food drive. The contributions to 13 food banks and pantries will provide more than 130,000 meals to hungry North Texas families.

mch“Good nutrition is essential to good health,” says Erol Akdamar, FACHE, president of Medical City Healthcare. “Our ‘Healthy Foods for Healthier Tomorrows’ food drive is another important example of how our colleagues care for our community to improve more lives in more ways beyond the hospital walls.”

As the holidays approach and food prices continue to rise due to global supply chain challenges, many North Texans will struggle to put food on the table. One in six people in North Texas face food insecurity, according to the North Texas Food Bank.

Hundreds of Medical City colleagues donated food or made a financial contribution to help purchase perishable items such as milk, fruits and vegetables, during the food drive. Additionally, Medical City Healthcare hospitals participated in a friendly and fun competition to build creative food sculptures from some of the donated canned food. The winning entries earned cash grants for their food bank beneficiaries funded by Medical City Healthcare and its parent company HCA Healthcare.

Beneficiaries of food and/or cash grants include the following:
• Christian Community Action
• Community Enrichment Center
• Community Food Pantry of McKinney
• Community Storehouse
• Denton Community Food Center
• Frisco Family Services
• Irving Cares
• Mansfield Mission Center
• North Texas Food Bank
• Minnie’s Food Panty
• Parker County Center of Hope
• Tarrant Area Food Bank
• White Rock Center of Hope

The food drive complements Medical City Healthcare’s award-winning kids teaching kids® program, which offers children and families nutrition education and resources to improve eating habits.
