Irving-based Caris Life Sciences is opening a $45 million liquid biopsy laboratory in Phoenix, where the molecular science company plans to fill hundreds of bioscience jobs over the next several months.
The new 34,000-square-foot laboratory at 4415 E. Cotton Center Blvd. brings the company’s total lab facility footprint in metro Phoenix to about 160,000 square feet.
A variety of jobs are already available at the new lab, including board-certified molecular geneticists, said Dr. David Spetzler, president and chief scientific officer of Caris.
“The most common job function is a molecular technologist,” he said. While that job can be secured with a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree helps, he said.
“We have collaborations with Arizona State University and Abilene Christian University where they can get their master’s and Ph.D. while working for us,” Spetzler said. “We pay for the Ph.D. and master’s degree. They get to do a lot of research work during normal work hours.”
