The city of Irving selected the Carrollton police chief to lead its department.
Pending confirmation by the city council May 5, Derick Miller will begin the new role as Irving police chief May 31. Miller was chosen as one of six finalists earlier this month.
“I am thrilled to have been selected to lead an organization that values treating everyone it serves with professionalism, dignity and respect,” Miller said in a prepared statement.
A native of Benbrook, Miller joined the Carrollton Police Department in 1992 as a reserve officer and was hired as chief in 2017.
