Family-Owned Mexican Dessert Shop Opens in Irving

A Mexican dessert shop has opened in Irving.

Family-owned Sol Dias serves hand-crafted ice cream, paletas, agua fresca and churros, which are made from scratch daily.

Its menu includes treats like mangonada, a frozen mango concoction, which is the shop’s top seller, and fresas con crema, or strawberries and cream.

Owner Victor Garcia was born in Jalisco, Mexico, where he said he fell in love with treats from local street vendors. His family later moved to Los Angeles, and he found many of the same treats.

Yet when Garcia moved to Texas, he said he missed the vibrant street vendor culture and food.

Garcia worked in accounting but eventually decided to switch gears and open Sol Dias in Haltom City in 2016. In addition to the new Irving shop, Garcia plans to open a storefront soon in Arlington.
