USA Triathlon Club National Championships To Take Place In Irving-Las Colinas

USA Triathlon today announced the USA Triathlon Club National Championships will take place in Irving, Texas in both 2022 and 2023 as part of the inaugural Professional Triathletes Organisation US Open Sept. 17-18, 2022 and as part of USA Triathlon’s Multisport National Championships Festival April 19-23, 2023.

The 2022 USA Triathlon Club National Championships will be run as part of the PTO US Open age-group event, with athletes wishing to be part of the club championships simply selecting their club during the registration process. The PTO US Open will also host the $1M pro race, set to feature 80 of the top professionals in the PTO World Rankings plus 10 wildcard performers, and which will be the climax to the first-ever PTO Tour season.

“Clubs are the backbone of multisport locally – they keep athletes engaged, facilitate close-knit communities, nurture a lifelong love of our sport, and make training and racing more accessible, just to name a few,” USA Triathlon Chief Sport Development Officer Tim Yount said. “The Club National Championships at both the PTO US Open in September and at Multisport National Championships Festival in 2023 will bring all these benefits to life in a fast-paced, festive environment that will truly be a nationwide celebration of triathlon clubs.”

“The more we discussed the new PTO US Open event with Rocky and his team, the more it felt like the right thing to do in using the weekend to bring back the USA Triathlon Club National Championships,” PTO CEO Sam Renouf said. “Our events are unique in that they put the best triathletes in the world on a global stage alongside amateurs. So to have the USAT club members all involved will only elevate it further.”

The pro and amateur races will be staged on a closed road course in the Las Colinas area, beginning with a swim in the pristine Lake Carolyn at the heart of the Levy Event Plaza before a flat, fast bike and similarly speedy run. The PTO is also planning a celebration concert on the Sunday evening to bring all athletes together in the true spirit of triathlon.

The sprint event on Saturday, September 17 is held over 25km (15.5 miles) with a 500m (0.3 mile) swim, 20km (12.4 mile) bike and 4.5km (2.8 mile) run. Meanwhile, the middle distance event on Sunday, September 18 is held over 100km (62.1 mile) and involves a 2km (1.25 mile) swim, 80km (50 mile) bike and 18km (11.2 mile run).

Registration for the USA Triathlon Club National Championships races is already open via the PTO website. Athletes simply choose their preferred distance and select their tri club when prompted during registration. Athletes who have already registered can make sure they’re representing their club by checking and updating their information via Active Network.
